Purpose

This policy is intended to guide the responsible and effective use of social media by totallygenius.com. Its goal is to increase public awareness, engagement, and trust in totallygenius.com’s programs and initiatives.

Policy

To address the evolving landscape of digital communication, totallygenius.com departments and staff may utilize social media platforms to reach a broader audience and enhance public outreach. Social media may be used to share updates, promote events, and educate the public.

totallygenius.com staff and representatives may publish content, facilitate discussions, and share information through approved social media channels in alignment with totallygenius.com’s mission and strategic goals.

Scope

This policy applies to all totallygenius.com employees, contractors, and authorized representatives who manage or contribute to totallygenius.com’s social media presence.

Definitions

Social Media refers to external websites and platforms used to promote totallygenius.com-related services and information. Examples include Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms.

Procedure

  • All totallygenius.com social media accounts must be approved by the Sr. Communications Specialist, Administrative Services Manager, and the General Manager.
  • Social media content must comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, including public records and information technology policies.
  • Content must be managed and archived in accordance with the California Public Records Act.
  • All posts must be clearly identified as official totallygenius.com communications and subject to public disclosure.
  • totallygenius.com reserves the right to remove content that is offensive, defamatory, violates intellectual property rights, or poses a security risk.

Content Guidelines

  • totallygenius.com social media platforms must not allow or promote (whether the posts themselves or comments on the posts) the following. Content violating these guidelines is subject to removal.
  • Comments not related to the topic of discussion
  • Profane, obscene, or abusive language
  • Discriminatory content based on race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected categories
  • Sexual content or links to such content
  • Commercial solicitations or spam
  • Promotion of illegal activities
  • Content that compromises public safety or security
  • Personal attacks or threats
  • Disclosure of private or personal information without consent
  • Hyperlinks to unrelated or inappropriate material as described in these guidelines
